Developing Loving Kindness

Metta is variously translated as goodwill, loving-kindness, or loving-friendliness. All are excellent. Here I leave it untranslated. Kamma is the pali equivalent of karma.

There is nothing you can do to create good kamma that is more than a tiny fraction as good as metta. Metta is more brilliant, more radiant than them all.

No star is more than a tiny fraction as brilliant, as radiant as the moon. The moon is brighter than them all. In just this way, metta is more brilliant, more radiant than any other kamma.

And in late summer, when the sky is clear, the sun is incredibly bright and powerful. Nothing that shines is even a tiny fraction as bright.  In just this way, metta is more brilliant, more radiant than any other kamma.

And in the darkness just before dawn, the morning star shines bright. In just this way, metta is more brilliant, more radiant than any other kamma.
